Kanterbräu, the beer of Maître Kanter, a traditional lager with just the right amount of bitterness. The name comes from the eponymous master brewer who founded a number of brasseries in the east of France, back in the 30's. The brasseries produced their own beer and offered a menu based on traditional Alsatian dishes.
The Tavernes de Maître Kanter carry on the same tradition, with over 60 restaurants in the major towns and cities in France, offering simple, hearty Alsatian dishes washed down with wine or beer (although the beer's now brought in directly from the brewery).

"The ‘Comptoir de Maître Kanter’ is a complete concept for establishments that is original and adapted to the demands of urban life consumption and relays the values dear to Master Brewer Kanter: tradition, authenticity, simplicity.

Master Brewer Kanter was one of the first brewers to develop the concept of restaurants-brasseries before world war II. Based on this heritage, it was in 1974, that the first ‘Taverne de Maître Kanter’ was opened in Paris where customers could enjoy a beer at the table to accompany simple and generous dishes.

Faithful to the model of the first Tavern, 75 ‘Tavernes de Maître Kanter’ located everywhere in France, offer more and more customers the pleasure of a quality meal accompanied by a high-quality beer. A privileged place with a friendly atmosphere, each tavern offers a varied menu where you find traditional dishes from gastronomy in Alsace of course, but also fish and seafood that beer accompanies perfectly.

The ‘Comptoir de Maître Kanter’ includes a large bar area where consumers can eat at the bar, plus a take-away sales area and a dining area. Depending on the time available, appetite and budget, each consumer enjoys the space which suits him.

The menu is inspired by regional traditions and cooking, with a touch of Alsace, and satisfies big and small hungers alike: ‘tartes flambées’, main courses and sweets, cold-cuts from Alsace, mixed salads.

Beer of course, or rather beers, have the lion’s share of this concept; just as Master Brewer Kanter made his claim to fame through the art of brewing.
